Things to do:

Crocodile Watching:
There are two types of crocodiles in Kakadu - saltwater and freshwater. Freshwater are only found in Australia and are usually found in freshwater rivers, creeks and plunge pools. They are usually shy animals and don't usually attack humans. Saltwater crocodiles on the other hand aren't so polite. They are very aggressive and have attacked and killed people in Kakadu, so be careful if you see one!

Check local listings for independent boat tours down rivers such as the East Alligator River and also in the Mary River Wetlands. Many tour operators have crocodile cruises included in the package.

A shuttle bus going to a commercial boat tour on the East Alligator River leaves from the Border Store daily (check wet season access). Guides explain local Aboriginal culture during a slow cruise up the river so you should spot a croc or two during the tour. Bookings are required so ring 08 8979 2411 to book.

Jim Jim and Twin Falls (dry season, 4WD only):
Two of the most spectacular waterfalls in Australia are right beside each other. Jim Jim Falls can sometimes dry up in the dry season but this doesn't effect how spectacular it looks. There is a plunge pool here if you fancy a dip.

Twin Falls is 60km further along the Jim Jim track and are arguably the most beautiful falls in Australia. The only way to get to the waterfalls is by water. Once you get there, go for a swim, stand at the foot of the falls and then sunbath on the small beach beside them where you will realise that the long swim is well worth it. Watch out for the crocs in the gorge though!

Nourlangie Rock:
Before you get to the lookout of Kakadu's escarpment and Nourlangie Rock, some of the park's most amazing Aboriginal art sites await you. From here you go to the Gunwarddehwarddle Lookout to get the best view of the rock. Rangers regularly give informative talks here during the dry season.
