Mission Beach is a good place to stop if you want to break the journey from Townsville (where you get the ferry to Magnetic Island) to Cairns. Even though it is somewhat of a sleepy town, there still is quite a lot to do here. Dunk Island, in view from the beach, is only 4km away and a cool place to visit for the day if you fancy some walking. Mission Beach is also very close to the Tully River which is one of the premier white-water rafting rivers in Queensland. Around Mission Beach are loads of walking tracks to keep you occupied also.
