Things
to do:
White-Water
Rafting:
If you decide to go rafting down the Tully River it will be one of the
best days you will spend on the coast. A day rafting down the 70km river
is not for the faint-hearted. The rapids on this river reach Grade 4.
This translates into 'hold on tight' for people not acquainted with
the sport. RnR Rafting (1800 079 039) are the best of
two white-water rafting companies which operate on the Tully (they cover
more of the river). You get into the boat at 9am, leave it again at
1pm to get the eats in, and then off an hour later for the second half
of the river. Although $120 might seem a lot for one days
activity, it really is worth every cent.
Horseride:
With a beautiful beach so close to the rainforest, Mission is a good
place to do some horseriding. The day usually begins with a walk/canter
along the beach and finishing up with a leisurely trot through the dense
rainforest. A day out costs about $55 from 9-12
Skydive:
A popular place to do a skydive as it is one of only a number of places
on the coast that will do a jump from 14,000ft. Mission Beach is also
one of the only places where you actually land on the beach itself.
If you take a second or two out from screaming and look down, your view
will be of Dunk Island and the other 20 odd islands off the coast of
Mission Beach. One downfall with doing a skydive here is that the video
is of very poor quality. It doesn't start with you on the ground, instead
with the jump, then on the ground, then the jump again. Mad. Contact
Jump the Beach (1800 638 005) if you want to jump over Mission
Beach.
