Victoria may be mainland Australia's smallest state, but there is still lots to do. With Melbourne as it's capital, which is Australia's second biggest city, most backpackers who don't head straight for Sydney come to Melbourne. Other main attractions in Victoria are Phillip Island and The Great Ocean Road, one of the greatest ocean drives in the world.

Accommodation:

Melbourne is full of hostels. It is very similar to Sydney in that you should be able to find long-term accommodation without many problems. There are hostels all along the Great Ocean Road and near other of Victoria's attractions.

Places To Go:

Melbourne:
Melbourne is Australia's most European city and there is more of a cafe culture here than in any of the other big cities. According to most Aussies, Melbourne is also the best city in Australia to eat out in. So if you're sick eating Magi-Noodles and want to treat yourself, Melbourne is the place to do it.

Work:

In some instances, wages in Melbourne may not be as good as in Sydney. This is due to a higher standard of living in. But if you are looking for work in the hospitality trade this city has a lot to offer with so many bars and cafes. Like the rest of Australia, a days work here and there may always be found in the hostels.

Going Out:

Partying in Melbourne is excellent. With the Southern Hemisphere's largest casino here you can't go wrong. The rest of the state's hostels also have a good social life.
